The benefits of bamboo are plenty
Bamboo fabric is super absorbent and fast drying, always with a silky feeling and lustre. The germs do not like bamboo, which makes the fabric naturally antibacterial. It is reflecting beams from the sun, which makes it UV protective. Bamboo is also thermo regulating and anti-static. And the best of all… it is eco-friendly and sustainable!
Bamboo clothing has an unusual absorbing function which helps your baby stay dry. The fabric is temperature regulating, warming your baby through the winter and helps keeping cool during the summer. The bamboo fibre composition has a unique and natural ability to reflect UV light. Bamboo clothing is antibacterial and possesses the ability to destroy up to 98% of the bacteria, which accumulates through everyday use and wear. Tests show that when incubating bacteria, 70% was eliminated after a day. Mould and odor also have problem to get a hook on bamboo fabric, that is even if the fabric are left wet and compressed. These benefits are especially superior for small children though infant’s bodies are not able to detoxify and excrete toxins as easily as adults. Also according to that babies breathe at a faster rate than adults, which even increases their intake of toxins. Children’s frequent hand to mouth activity also increases their intake of toxic residue. Bamboo is biological decomposable if it isn’t bleached.
Bamboo has a range of use such as building material, flooring, furniture, paper, clothing and interior. For clothing use, any kind of fabric can be made, woven, knits and jersey. It is also suitable to mix bamboo with other fibers such as cotton, hemp, cashmere and many others. There are 1200 different kinds of bamboo, which is a grass. It is the fastest growing plant on earth and it can grow up to 1 meter per day and totally get 60 meters high.
The only place it doesn’t grow is on the North and South Pole. The leaves on the Moso bamboo, which is used for clothing, starts to grow 5 meters from the ground and that is too high for the Pandas to reach. Which means the Pandas doesn’t take any harm by making clothing out of bamboo. The bamboo plant is rain-fed only, compared to cotton plants which demands a lot of water. Bamboo is a great carbon dioxide absorber, and releases 35% more oxygen than the same size stand of trees. It actually helps the environment by reducing global warming. Bamboo is not vulnerable to insects and grows so fast that no pesticides, fertilizer or chemicals are needed. The bamboo plant has an amazing self-adjusting root system, a few plants die and a few sprouts grows up every year. The new sprouts need 3-4 years to mature for clothing use. When harvesting, only the mature plants are taken to use and the mother plant continues to exist at the same dimension.
Bamboo yarn is made with the same method as viscose yarn. The plant is crushed into a fine pulp and then spun into a thin fiber. The fabric factory we use are Oeko-Tex certified and controlled by Control Union, they are specialized in bamboo and other eco-friendly fibers. The fabric for our first collection is made in Oeko-Tex certified bamboo and OCIA certified organic cotton, we mix cotton with bamboo to make the fabric even stronger and long lasting. Our belief is that the clothing should be worn in generations.
